I'm working with virus particles. How do I decontaminate the instrument?
Instruments that have been exposed to virus particles can be decontaminated by wiping down the instrument using the following reagents:
- 10-30% bleach
- Virkon
- 70% ethanol
Only 70% ethanol is suitable for decontamination of the Automatic Fraction Collector (AFC)
You can also expose the instrument under UV-light in the fume hood for 15-20 minutes. 0.20-0.35% of paracetic acid can only be used to clean metal components ONLY.
